New-gen Jeep Compass Electric 4x4 has been patented in India, showcasing a blend of modern design and advanced EV technology, aimed at the global market.

The Jeep Compass has always been a remarkable SUV, and the latest iteration highlights its evolution towards electrification. A new, fully electric 4x4 version of the Jeep Compass has recently been patented in India, stirring buzz among enthusiasts and potential buyers alike. Although the company has yet to announce a launch in the Indian market, this move reflects the growing importance of electric vehicles (EVs) in Jeep's global strategy.

Exploring the New Jeep Compass Design and Dimensions
The third-generation Jeep Compass was introduced last year, primarily targeting markets such as Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and New Zealand. The design patent images reveal a full electric 4x4 variant of the Compass, maintaining the core aesthetic familiar to Jeep fans while incorporating modern features intended for a more sustainable future.

This electric variant features design tweaks in its grille and alloy wheels compared to gasoline counterparts and boasts improved approach and departure angles, enhancing its off-road capabilities. The globally available new-gen Jeep Compass comes in several configurations, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and full electric models.

As for its overall dimensions, the Compass measures 4,550 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm, providing ample cabin space. Notably, rear legroom has increased by approximately 55 mm, enhancing passenger comfort. The boot capacity has also seen an upgrade, offering around 550 litres of space, which is advantageous for family outings or road trips.

Features that Stand Out
The interior of the new Jeep Compass is equipped with modern technology aimed at enhancing the driving experience. It includes a striking 16-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, which provide intuitive access to vehicle settings and multimedia. Additional features include dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel.

For safety, the full electric 4x4 variant is equipped with the Selec-Terrain® System, allowing drivers to adapt their vehicle's dynamics to various driving conditions. Complementing this are front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera, and the Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This package encompasses features like adaptive cruise control, lane positioning assist, and automatic emergency braking, reinforcing Jeep's commitment to safety.

Powertrain and Performance Options
The new Jeep Compass offers a diverse range of powertrain options to suit different driver preferences. The mild-hybrid variant, denoted as e-Hybrid, features a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine coupled with a 48V electric motor, delivering a total output of 145 hp through a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. This version is available only in front-wheel drive (FWD).
Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup comprises a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor, generating a combined output ranging from 195 to 228 hp. It boasts a pure electric driving range of approximately 80 km, appealing for urban environments and short commutes.

The star of the show is undoubtedly the full electric battery electric vehicle (BEV) model. With a single motor FWD setup, it produces 213 hp and comes equipped with a 74 kWh battery that provides a range of around 500 km according to WLTP standards. A long-range version extends this capability to approximately 650 km, making it competitive in the EV market. The 4x4 BEV variant, branded as 4xe Full-Electric, takes things a step further with dual motors producing a substantial 375 hp and a range of around 600 km.
Charging Infrastructure and Practical Ownership
As the Jeep Compass Electric prepares for potential market entry, its compatibility with charging infrastructure will be a significant consideration for prospective buyers. Fast charging capabilities allow users to charge from 20% to 80% in just 31 minutes using a DC fast charger—a vital factor for convenience-minded drivers. Given that electric vehicles are becoming more popular, the adoption of charging stations is also on the rise, adding to the practicality of owning an EV.
While Jeep has not confirmed any definitive plans for releasing the new-gen Compass in India, the increasing electric vehicle demand may influence future strategy. Additionally, the company's plans to introduce a domestically manufactured SUV by 2028, utilizing Tata Motors' platform, suggests an ongoing commitment to aligning with local market needs and preferences.
In summary, the upcoming Jeep Compass Electric 4x4 offers a glimpse into a future where off-road capability meets sustainable mobility. The design and performance aspects of this SUV align well with the technological trends in today’s automotive landscape, making it an intriguing option for buyers looking for both capability and eco-friendliness.
