Join a Lincoln Mark VIII as it celebrates 30 years of life on the road during the quirky Lemons Rally, filled with laughter, challenges, and camaraderie.

You might not realize just how much intelligence can be packed into a car's computer system. Underneath the surface, vehicles utilize sophisticated sensors, modules, and accumulated experience, which allows them to perform in ways that surprise many. I'm a Lincoln Mark VIII LSC, born in May 1995, and my 30th birthday celebration took place at the eccentric Lemons Rally—a unique event showcasing cars that defy conventional standards of worth and beauty. Before diving into my thrilling adventure, let’s travel back for a moment to my origins.

While my current owner, Sajeev, attended his prom in a borrowed Lincoln Mark VII Bill Blass, I had yet to meet him. Instead, the young medical student—Sajeev’s brother—was already making an impression nearby, arriving in a Bimini Blue Mustang during my time at a Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Plano, Texas. His 5.0 Mustang was an attraction, one that briefly diverted attention from my unique gray/black paint job. However, this doctor-in-waiting saw the “boring” black-on-black LSC instead of me, which marked the beginning of a series of fortunate events that made my life rather remarkable.

Years rolled on, and after accumulating 117,000 miles with a previous owner—a man who treasured me until age 81—I found myself longing for a loving home. Enter Sajeev, who, much to my delight, came back for me after years, embodying everything I hoped for in an owner: passion, care, and attention to detail.

Throughout Sajeev’s twenties, together we navigated life’s ups and downs. He dedicated time to making me the best version of myself: new transmission parts, fresh brakes, and even Addco sway bars during moments of financial uncertainty. My body, too, received TLC—a full respray and interior upgrades gifted me with the charm I once had. Although I might not be the darling of the custom car crowd, I remain a proud Lincoln ambassador!

Getting Ready for the Lemons Rally
Fast forward to 2024, when I made my digital debut in a Lemons video! We’ve participated in the Lemons Rally since 2009, and during that time, Sajeev earned the title “Judge Sajeev” by evaluating the cheating antics of fellow racers. However, the 30th birthday milestone required something extra special, so Sajeev allocated around $8,000 toward prepping me for the rally ahead.

New components included upgrades to suspension and extra-wide tires that added a touch of “chonk” to my sidewalls. A Hagerty reader gifted me with a larger, more durable radiator while I underwent a complete overhaul of essential systems—both critical and minor components. With an improved cooling system, I was raring to hit the road with minimal worry of breaking down.

Rally Time
With the new gear in place, Sajeev prepared everything for a seamless journey as we joined fellow participants at the Harris Hill Raceway. Toward the end of 2025, my official 30th year issued its next big challenge: an 1,100 mile trek across Texas during the Lemons Rally. The anticipation of reconnecting with fellow car enthusiasts inspired Sajeev to load up all necessary equipment, including spare parts like an alternator, electric modules, tools, and an Anker Power Bank to charge devices on the go.

The road trip kicked off with whimsy, as a friend brought along a Town Car—ideal for additional camaraderie in the group. Conversations flowed easily, teasing established stereotypes of automotive journalism ensued, and each participant aimed for a communal goal: to earn less points and have fun along the way. Our “Entitled Automotive Journalist” theme—judging by the constant banter—matched the spirit of the event hilariously.

On the rally kickoff day, participants reveled in the excitement, awaiting their time to shine on the track. The variety of vehicles created a vibrant atmosphere, from pristine restorations to rugged characterful racers. Although Sajeev initially was hesitant to fully embrace the theme, our ingenious use of blue painter's tape for decoration did yield us some attention (both good and bad).

Character was definitely not lost among the entrants. The array of cars included a well-maintained blue Volvo P1800 alongside budget-minded models showcasing their battle scars from years spent tackling backroads. Our rally’s charm is truly evident in how it attracts a motley crew of car enthusiasts seeking connection and adventure.

This bond was paramount throughout, as the first day flew on by without incident, leading us into the adventures of lesser-known routes that bypassed typical highways. Rolling hills and scenic landscapes entertained us as the anticipation of discovering hidden gems kept spirits high. Alas, not everything went smoothly; as we traversed bumpy backroads, I felt the familiar jolt of hitting dips without proper suspension—the relentless shaking led to injuries on my radiator core support.

Challenges on the Road
The days went by with varying degrees of success. My once smooth ride gradually morphed into an intense bumpy challenge, exhibiting signs of stress as we approached Laredo. We even broke down momentarily, resulting in a battery failure that led to some perplexing interactions with the helpful locals. Thankfully, our trusty walkie-talkies ensured team communications remained intact, while we reminisced and teased our friend Jon over his longstanding annoyance with automotive journalists.

Our adventures continued along the journey, enriching each other's lives while addressing mechanical failures on the go. An alternator failure on the BMW wagon led us to a local O’Reilly’s, where I happily offered to lend my extra cooling parts to help the crew get back on the road.

As the rally unfolded, it became contagious to see the charming personalities of fellow participants. An impressive camaraderie built among us, rife with bloopers and fun. I managed to engage moments of introspection, recalling how Sajeev and I had been through so much historically as we traveled. We stopped for a memorable visit to Matthew McConaughey's installation in Uvalde, TX, a milestone experience that further elevated our excitement that day.

Crowning Moments
After days of immersion into captivating backgrounds and forging new relationships, arriving at Harris Hill Raceway felt surreal. We're happy to report that I triumphed over my competitors, including the Autopian’s quirky Murano. Earning praise for our unique sense of humor and lackadaisical approach to the rally specified how we established our unique identity.

Celebrating me at 30 years has been a reminiscence but rather special; each mile had forged memories, indelibly etched into my history. The joys of sharing laughter and dealing with challenges alongside friends make these memories even more precious. I might have my setbacks, yet these adventures lead me to how much life contains, even through the lens of automotive misadventures.

In reflecting on this journey so far, I appreciate every twist, turn, and adjustment made. Here's hoping for even more years and adventures ahead!

Thanks to all the fellow car enthusiasts and friends who shared moments in my reincarnation at this year’s Lemons Rally. Together, we certainly created a beautiful chaos on our journey celebrating 30 fabulous years. I might not be a high-end luxury vehicle, but I carry the spirit of a seasoned road warrior!
