Fiat 1500 6C Farina: A Champion of Heritage

The 1940 Fiat 1500 6C, showcasing exquisite Farina coachwork, has been honored with the esteemed title of Best of Show at the inaugural ASI Fest. This prestigious event took place at the Misano World Circuit, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Automotoclub Storico Italiano (ASI). The Fiat, representing a significant slice of Italian automotive history, stood out among numerous competitors, emphasizing both its historical importance and the artistry of its design.

Details of the ASI Fest

The ASI Fest was an expansive showcase dedicated to Italian automobiles manufactured up to 1966, the same year ASI was established. It brought together car enthusiasts from all corners of Italy and beyond, who were eager to celebrate the storied past of Italian motoring. Over the course of three days, from September 25 to September 27, the event not only featured classic cars but also highlighted the rich tapestry of automobile culture in Italy.

As part of the festivities, the 2026 ASI Autogiro d'Italia came to a close at Misano after an impressive journey that covered 1,600 kilometers through six regions, beginning from Montecatini Terme. The winners of the eighth Autogiro, Dell’Oro and Rusconi, navigated the route successfully behind the wheel of a 1976 Alfa Romeo Giulia Nuova Super. They were followed closely by Bossi and Arnoldi in a 1995 BMW M3 GT, while Trapè and Nicolai secured third place in a 1970 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 Ti.

A Tribute to Preservation

In a poignant moment during the event, the Premio Nazionale ASI per il Motorismo Storico was awarded in memory of Luciano Nicolis, the late founder of the Museo Nicolis, who played a crucial role in preserving the history of Italian transport. ASI president Alberto Scuro presented this award to Nicolis’s children, Thomas and Silvia, during the official opening on September 26. Esteemed figures in the racing world, such as Giacomo Agostini and Arturo Merzario, were also present to honor Nicolis's legacy and contribution to automotive history.

Expansive Exhibitions and Activities

The event was more than just a car show; it encompassed a dynamic array of attractions catering to diverse interests. With around 70 ASI clubs participating, the first paddock was filled with fascinating exhibits, including military vehicles, historic commercial transport, agricultural machinery, and even boats and aircraft. This variety underscored the depth of passion surrounding all forms of transport within Italy’s rich history.

In a second paddock, hundreds of historic vehicles participated in regularity tests, showcasing their capabilities on the Misano circuit. The pit garages were transformed into showcases of racing history, featuring century-old vehicles, an impressive collection from ASI, and live certification sessions for classic cars—offering insights into the meticulous standards for vehicle preservation.

Driving Experiences and Celebrations

Participants and spectators alike enjoyed free-running sessions on the Misano track, where classic cars and motorcycles took to the asphalt, including models powered by ASI Green bio-petrol. The event culminated in opening and closing parades that featured a diverse range of vehicles, from cars and buses to trucks and military equipment, animating the track in a celebration of motoring heritage. Historic aircraft also performed flyovers, further enriching the festive atmosphere.

Significance of the ASI Fest

This year’s ASI Fest marked more than just an anniversary for ASI; it coincided with FIVA’s 60th anniversary, enhancing its significance in the world of historical vehicles. The live-stage program featured crucial events, such as the admission of the Museo della Guardia di Finanza into the ASI Musei network and a new agreement between ASI and Confagricoltura aimed at preserving historic Italian agricultural machinery. These developments signal a commitment to not just maintaining but also enhancing the recognition of Italy’s diverse transport heritage.

The ASI Fest set a precedent for future gatherings and highlighted Italy's rich automotive history within a vibrant community setting. With free admission and a plethora of activities, it managed to draw in enthusiasts from all walks of life, ensuring that the spirit of these classic vehicles continues to inspire generations to come.
