The Royal Automobile Club’s Art of Motoring exhibition will return to London from 28 to 31 October 2026, bringing together 32 established and emerging artists whose work explores cars, motor racing and the people associated with both.

Now in its 12th year, the exhibition will be staged at the Iconic Images Gallery in Waterloo Place, a short distance from the Royal Automobile Club’s Pall Mall headquarters. Admission is free, with the event forming part of London Motor Week alongside the St James’s Motoring Spectacle and the RM Sotheby’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.

The 2026 exhibition will feature work by several established motoring artists, including Dexter Brown, John Ketchell, Tim Potts and Adam Gompertz, alongside car designers Paul Howse and Peter Birtwhistle. Their contributions will be joined by those of emerging artists, with subjects ranging from historic racing cars and road-going machinery to portraits of drivers and scenes from motorsport history.

Places are reserved each year for new exhibitors, with applications open to British-based motoring artists working either professionally or part time. Two newcomers this year will be Ukrainian artist Andrei Zaharov and Mark Wilkinson, both of whom use mechanical components to produce functional pieces. Zaharov creates clocks incorporating parts from BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles, while Wilkinson repurposes engine and suspension components to construct furniture and lighting, including desks, office chairs, tables and lamps.

The exhibition will encompass a range of artistic techniques and materials, from oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings to sculpture, hand-pressed prints and pieces incorporating 3D printing and ceramics. The latter include detailed reproductions of automotive components, reflecting the growing use of alternative materials in motoring art.

“Many of our regulars are back this year, and we also have three artists returning after a sabbatical, along with some exciting new discoveries,” said exhibition curator Andrew Marriott, who oversees the selection process alongside a panel of specialists.

The Royal Automobile Club has also extended its involvement in automotive art by introducing a Motoring Art category to its annual Historic Awards, which will take place in November. The Art of Motoring exhibition takes place at the Iconic Images Gallery, 16 Waterloo Place, London SW1Y 4AR, from Wednesday 28 October to Saturday 31 October 2026. Admission is free and advance booking is not required – more details can be found on the official website, which is here.
