SUSTAIN has enhanced its UK distribution network to nine locations, providing more access to sustainable petrol blends while advocating for support in the sector.

SUSTAIN Expands Sustainable Fuel Network Across the UK: Aiming for Broader Access and Adoption

SUSTAIN has significantly increased its distribution network in the UK, now featuring nine locations including notable spots like Castle Combe Circuit and The Classic Motor Hub. This expansion comes as parent company Coryton intensifies efforts to make its sustainable petrol blends more accessible, catering to the growing demand for eco-friendly fuel alternatives.

According to CACI data from August 2025, around 4.3 million adults, representing approximately 2.2 million households, now live within a 30-minute journey of one of SUSTAIN's distributors. These numbers are based on modeling of 2021 Census data projected for 2025, underlining the network's development in response to evolving consumer preferences and environmental concerns.

Geographic Reach and Product Availability

Currently, SUSTAIN's distributors extend from Wiltshire and Gloucestershire in the south to Fife in Scotland, reflecting a concerted effort to serve both rural and urban populations. The sustainable fuels are accessible at various locations either directly from pumps or in drums, facilitating usage across different consumer needs and preferences. A notable highlight of the product offering is the SUSTAIN Classic blends, designed particularly for older vehicles. These blends contain less than one percent ethanol, minimizing potential compatibility issues that can arise from higher ethanol levels, which can adversely affect older engine types and components.

Environmental Considerations and Fuel Composition

The composition of SUSTAIN's fuels is noteworthy. They incorporate various proportions of second-generation biomass sourced from agricultural residues, food waste, and crop by-products not fit for human consumption. This approach is designed to recycle carbon present in the atmosphere rather than introducing new carbon from fossil fuels. By utilizing vertically integrated supply chains for these bio-based materials, SUSTAIN aims to lower the carbon footprint associated with traditional petrol while improving fuel sustainability.

Compatibility and Usage

SUSTAIN's fuels are formulated to serve as direct replacements for conventional petrol, requiring no modifications to compatible vehicles. This reduces the barrier for consumers who may be hesitant to transition towards sustainable options due to concerns about vehicle compatibility. Not only can these sustainable fuels be used on their own, but they can also be mixed with conventional fossil petrol, providing flexibility for users still reliant on traditional fuels.

The company's strategy initially focused on motorsport and classic vehicle applications; however, the launch of their first UK public pump in 2023 marked a pivotal transition towards broader consumer availability. This forward movement signals a commitment to fostering sustainable transportation solutions without necessitating the immediate replacement of existing combustion-engine vehicles.

Current Distribution Network

Among the current distributors are several well-positioned locations, including AHS Motorsport near Lutterworth, Castle Combe Race Circuit in Wiltshire, and MacG Racing near Derby. Others include New Elms near Reading, P&K Thornton in Nottinghamshire, and Sitech Racing in Fife. Additionally, three other outlets support distribution in the Peterborough and Cotswolds regions, with names like Project Heaven and Splined Hub enhancing the network's visibility and reach.

Industry Perspective and Future Support

SURESHA Nahar, the SUSTAIN brand manager, emphasizes the potential of liquid sustainable fuels to significantly reduce reliance on fossil fuels within the current fleet of combustion-engine vehicles. He asserts that these fuels are ready for market presence, requiring no new infrastructure, as they can be utilized at existing petrol forecourts with minimal fuss. This could offer an immediate solution while the shift to electric vehicles continues to take shape.

That said, Nahar calls for enhanced government support for sustainable liquid fuels, pointing out that existing policies tend to favor electrification. He highlights the inconsistency in treatment of biomass resources, depending on whether they are harnessed for electricity generation versus transportation fuels. For those interested in further details, additional information can be found on the Coryton website.

Looking ahead, as the SUSTAIN network continues to grow and evolve, its ability to offer a viable, eco-friendly alternative will be key to encouraging wider adoption among consumers and helping to reduce the significant environmental impacts associated with fossil fuel consumption.
