Key Cars to Watch at Motor Racing Legends’ Silverstone Season Finale

Motor Racing Legends will host its 2026 season finale at Silverstone from October 17-18, bringing ten exciting races across eight grids on the full 3.66-mile Grand Prix circuit. Among the standout entries are the iconic ‘49 FXN’ low-drag Jaguar E-type Lightweight, an ex-Dutch Touring Car Championship Renault 21 Turbo, and seven Lister sports-racers. This event concludes a season that saw Motor Racing Legends participating in eight different events across the UK, France, and Belgium.

Located in Silverstone’s National Paddock, this weekend promises a diverse array of vehicles, from pre-war Grand Prix cars to classic touring automobiles. The program will culminate with the two-hour Royal Automobile Club Pall Mall Cup, set to be a highlight on Saturday. Let's take a closer look at three noteworthy entrants.

Renault 21 Turbo

Renault 21 Turbo

The Renault 21 Turbo makes its Historic Touring Car Challenge debut at Silverstone. Originating from the Alpine workshops in Dieppe in 1986, this vehicle was initially given to Formula 1 driver Michael Bleekemolen, who competed in the 1988 and 1989 Dutch Touring Car Championships wearing its distinctive black-and-purple Penthouse magazine livery. Following its racing stint in the Netherlands, it was transported to the UK for the Willhire 24 Hours.

Recently undergoing extensive restoration, including a complete restoration of its bodyshell and painting, this race car now boasts a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine modified by Prima Racing, capable of producing up to 350 bhp at 23 psi. The Renault will be seen in action during the two Historic Touring Car Challenge races, scheduled for Saturday at 3.05pm and Sunday at 10.55am.

Lister Sports-Racers

Lister Sports-Racers

A total of seven Lister sports-racers will grace the Stirling Moss Trophy and the Royal Automobile Club Pall Mall Cup, showcasing two of the brand’s most recognized designs: the ‘Knobbly’ and the later Costin-bodied variants, developed with the input of aerodynamicist Frank Costin. This collection of Lister cars also highlights the variety of engines utilized throughout their history. Most will feature the iconic 3.8-litre Jaguar straight-six, while two entries will sport powerful 5.7-litre Chevrolet V8 engines.

The Listers are set to race in Saturday's combined Woodcote Trophy, Stirling Moss Trophy, and HMRN Pre-’63 GT race at 1.50pm, followed by participation in the Pall Mall Cup at 4pm. Their unique engineering and historical significance are sure to draw significant attention from the crowd.

Jaguar E-type Lightweight ‘49 FXN’

Jaguar E-type Lightweight ‘49 FXN’

The Jaguar E-type Lightweight ‘49 FXN’ is a notable highlight among the entries. One of only 12 factory-built Lightweight variants and just one of two featuring low-drag bodywork, this legendary car has an impressive racing pedigree. Originally driven by Peter Lumsden and Peter Sargent, it underwent significant modifications for the 1964 season, with aerodynamic advancements led by Dr. Samir Klat.

That year, it faced formidable competition, racing at the Nürburgring 1000km, the Le Mans 24 Hours, and the Goodwood Tourist Trophy against legendary cars like the Ferrari 250 GTO and Shelby Daytona Coupe. At Le Mans, it reached speeds of 174 mph on the Mulsanne Straight and was leading in its class before retiring due to a gearbox failure, ultimately finishing fifth in the GT class at Goodwood.

Fast forward to the 2026 season, and ‘49 FXN’ has proven its mettle, achieving victories in various prestigious events. Lukas Halusa and Alex Ames secured the Royal Automobile Club Pall Mall Cup at the Donington Historic Festival, and Halusa later teamed up with André Lotterer to clinch victory in the Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration at the Goodwood Revival. With several wins already this season, another Reliably strong performance at Silverstone could provide Halusa with a remarkable third major Royal Automobile Club title in 2026, with that two-hour race kicking off at 4pm on Saturday.
